The Snake Venom Research Institute of Guangxi Medical University was established in 1983 and is one of the well-known snake venom research centers in China. The research institute has strong technical strength, with a laboratory area of over 300 square meters and advanced instruments and equipment worth over 4 million yuan. It mainly conducts biochemical and molecular biology research on active proteins and enzymes in snake venom, as well as the development and research of new drugs. It undertakes quality inspection and consulting work for snake venom products. Renowned experts and professors in snake venom research at home and abroad, including Tang Shengxi, Shu Yuyan, and Li Zhaoyan, have served as the director of the institute and are currently Zhang Xuerong.
The research institute has undertaken and completed more than ten national and provincial level research projects, and has achieved multiple important scientific research achievements, patents, and awards. It has made outstanding achievements in the development of snake venom products, and the quality of the developed horseshoe crab reagent series products has won three consecutive championships by the Ministry of Health; The developed “Refined Thrombolytic Enzyme for Injection” has won the Gold Award at the National Spark Program Achievement Exhibition, 5 units and 10 units of “Fibrinolytic Enzyme for Injection” have won the National Drug Production Approval Number (National Drug Approval Number H10983161, National Drug Approval Number H10983162), and “Fuzhu Capsule” has been approved for registration in medical institutions (Gui090017).
