China Agkistrodon halys of Yibin University was published and released. New breakthroughs were made in snake biodiversity research

Recently, Professor Guo Peng of Yibin University and others compiled the book China Viper, which was published by the Science Press. China Agkistrodon halys is the first monograph on systematics of Agkistrodon halys in China, and also the most complete, comprehensive and systematic work on Agkistrodon halys in China at present. It provides scientific materials and basic data for the research and teaching of Agkistrodon halys, the protection and management of snake biodiversity, and the prevention of snake injuries. Academician Zhang Yaping of the Chinese Academy of Sciences wrote a preface to the book.

Agkistrodon halys (collectively called Agkistrodon halys) is a kind of poisonous snake with tube teeth and cheek nest. China has a vast territory and diverse environment, which breeds a variety of Agkistrodon halys. Agkistrodon halys, as a component of the earth’s biodiversity, has important ecological, economic and aesthetic values; At the same time, Agkistrodon halys is closely related to human health and is the main group causing snake injuries in China.

The Chinese Agkistrodon halys, which is a combination of science and popular science, has 252 pages and is divided into two parts. The first part systematically introduces the classification status and identification characteristics of Agkistrodon halys, and summarizes the history of classification research of Agkistrodon halys at home and abroad; The second part systematically describes 37 species of Agkistrodon halys in 9 genera in China, providing Chinese and English names, type specimens, identification characteristics, morphological description, biological data, geographical distribution and other relevant information of each species. There are more than 200 beautiful pictures of the species of Agkistrodon halys, environmental color photos and hand-painted skulls in the book.

China Agkistrodon halys was written by Professor Guo Peng of Yibin University and members of his research team based on years of research achievements, combined with the latest research progress at home and abroad. It is a phased summary of the study of Agkistrodon halys in China. Guo Peng’s research team has been focusing on the morphological classification, systematic evolution, molecular ecology, pedigree geography and other studies of Agkistrodon halys since 1996, and has successively published more than 100 related academic papers, including more than 40 papers included in SCI.

In the past five years, the Yibin Key Laboratory for Animal Diversity and Ecological Conservation, headed by Guo Peng, has successively presided over 4 national projects, 4 provincial and ministerial projects, 7 prefecture level projects and 12 other projects. The key laboratory has formed three main research directions, namely, “animal diversity and evolution”, “utilization and protection of animal resources” and “prevention and control of animal epidemics”.
